The liberalisation process of the electricity market is in a different phase in every country, nevertheless the global trend is towards a more free market environment. This liberalisation trend is beginning to have an effect, even in sectors and markets that were previously state-run.
These complex systems are equipped with an intelligent gauge, and are becoming faster, more automated and more sophisticated in terms of the reading composition. The electrometers are able to provide more and more data about the history of the consumption and the condition of the gauge. The transferred data have changed from a single value to several tens of values, historical load profiles, event recorders, direct commands, etc. With these systems, it is possible to efficiently limit the illegal consumption of electricity and save on overall electricity consumption.
The core of the entire system is an intelligent digital meter with the possibility of duplex communication. These meters provide at the last mile (twisted pair, PLC, RF) data to the data concentrators that process the data and then, using the high-speed connection TCP/IP, transfer it to the data centre. The data centre processes the data, archives it and then enables for the processing of invoices, prediction, calculations of balances and other parameters for energy supplies. The entire system works in real time and it is also possible to command the meters backwards, limit the consumption and possibly disconnect the consumption point.
By making the data available very quickly, it is possible to minimise the time needed for a change of the supplier, which is very simple and intuitive thanks to the IS/IT support. The entire system then allows the customer to monitor the parameters of his consumption and save money. Those small savings accumulate in the global view into significant savings in electricity consumption.

ZPA Smart Energy also offers other highly sophisticated instruments with modern communication possibilities in its production programme. One example is a programmable automated device that utilizes GSM or GPRS communication, and is suitable for remote control of public lighting, various “festive” lighting, for remote control and monitoring of boiler rooms, exchanger stations or family houses. Using this automated device, it is possible to monitor the entire grid, quickly react to possible changes and failures and thus increase the efficiency of the entire grid. In order to monitor electricity consumption, a digital electrometer with communication from the production of ZPA Smart Energy is also used in this system.
